Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Your PDF is opened and compressed entirely inside your browser using the pdf.js and pdf-lib libraries. The file never leaves your device.

Why can't my PDF be compressed?

Password-protected (encrypted) PDFs can't be opened without the password, and damaged or non-PDF files fail to load — the tool will tell you exactly which one it is. Scanned or image-heavy PDFs shrink the most; PDFs that are already tiny or mostly vector text may barely change.

Will compression hurt readability?

Pages are re-rendered at a scale tied to your chosen quality and rebuilt as JPEG images. At Medium (60) most documents look identical on screen; choose High (80+) for print-quality results, or Low (30–40) when you only need the smallest possible file.
